Al-Rahi urges border control, slams presidential vote obstructors

Maronite Patriarch Beshara al-Rahi on Sunday called on security authorities to “enhance the protection of Lebanese border crossings.”

“We are praying for officials to rise above their private interests,” al-Rahi said in his Sunday Mass sermon.

“Why is Lebanon being deprived of the election of a president?” the patriarch wondered.

“Why is the (National) Pact being violated?” al-Rahi lamented, noting that the 1943 pact between the countries’ sects “stipulates that the president be a Maronite Christian, the prime minister be a Sunni Muslim and the parliament speaker be a Shiite Muslim.”

Word of the day : Obstructor

From latin Latin (Obstruere): The term originates from the Latin verb "obstruere," which is a combination of two Latin elements: "ob" (meaning "against" or "in the way of") and "struere" (meaning "to build" or "to pile up"). The verb "obstruere" essentially means "to build in the way of," "to block," or "to obstruct."

Late Latin (Obstructor): From the Latin verb "obstruere," the noun "obstructor" was formed in Late Latin. In this context, "obstructor" referred to a person or thing that obstructs or blocks something.
