Hezbollah says 'prepared' for action against Israel when time comes

Hezbollah on Friday said it would be "fully prepared" to join the Palestinians in the war against Israel when the time is right.

“We in Hezbollah are contributing to the confrontation and we’ll contribute to it within our vision and plan,” Hezbollah deputy chief Sheikh Naim Qassem told a pro-Palestinian rally in Beirut's southern suburbs.

“We are following up on the enemy’s step, we are maintaining full readiness and when the time comes for any action we will do it,” Qassem added.

The official, whose remarks coincided with a visit by Iran's foreign minister to Beirut, rebuffed calls for Hezbollah to stay out of the war.

An outreach by "major countries, Arab countries, and envoys from the United Nations, directly and indirectly, asking us not to interfere in the battle, will not affect us," he said, adding that "Hezbollah knows its duties."

Israel has traded fire with Hezbollah and allied Palestinian factions in Lebanon in recent days, although the tit-for-tat attacks have remained limited.

On Monday, Hezbollah said Israeli strikes killed three of its members, while Palestinian fighters claimed a thwarted infiltration bid.

Israel said it hit Hezbollah observation posts on Tuesday, while Hamas' armed wing claimed rocket fire.

On Wednesday, Hezbollah said it targeted an Israeli position near the village of Dhayra. Israeli retaliatory fire shortly after wounded three people and turned Dhayra into a ghost town.

It is more a little rich for Sheikh Naim Qassem to claim the Palestinians are at war with Israel and so Lebanese ought to be ready to join-in. The President of Palestine has not declared a "state of war". The geographic portion of Palestine outside Gaza is not engaged in a "war" with Israel. And Lebanon's Prime Minister has made no statement that the country has given-up its neutral stance so to join-in with the Iranian mission.

"Resistance" is a lie.

And how much support does the President of Lebanon enjoy these days? <sarc/>

Qassem is not my president. Not even elected to bathroom attendant. He speaks not for Lebanon or Lebanese.

I agree with Natives regarding the actions of Fatah and Abu Mazen. It appears that their party has compromised the Palestinian cause, essentially becoming a partner and collaborator of the Israeli occupier, trading it for financial gains obtained through embezzlement in exchange for non-aggressiveness against the Zionists. This has left most Palestinians feeling disillusioned by Fatah and exasperated by Hamas, paralleling the sentiments that many of us in Lebanon share towards our corrupt and inept politicians. Nevertheless, it's important to acknowledge that the situation in Palestine is exacerbated by the ongoing occupation, making it even more challenging for the Palestinian people.

And Mystic, you and your friends need to stop loitering around the Beirut Port; the Americans, French, Brits, Canadians and Australians are not sending ships to pick you up and take you away this time. Take your luggage and go away! You are in the way and people have to work around here dammit! Besides there's nothing in the port for you to steal anymore, not since Hassin's ammonium nitrate blew everything to smithereen. Thank you for you understanding.
