Maariv poll: 71% of Israelis in favor of operation against Lebanon
A poll published by right-wing Israeli newspaper Maariv has showed that 71% of Israelis believe that Israel should launch a large-scale military operation against Lebanon.
Furthermore, 12 percent of Israelis think that the current situation on the border between Lebanon and Israel should be contained, while 17 percent of respondents said they had no opinion on the matter, Maariv reported.
Hezbollah and Israel have been exchanging near-daily fire across the border since the Israel-Hamas war broke out on October 7.
Wednesday was the bloodiest day in more than four months of cross-border exchanges, with 10 civilians and five Hezbollah members including a commander killed.
Hezbollah said it retaliated on Thursday by firing dozens of rockets into the settlement of Kiryat Shmona in northern Israel.
The Israeli army said it carried out Wednesday's strikes after rocket fire from Lebanon killed a soldier and wounded seven others at the Israeli army’s northern headquarters in Safad.
The cross-border exchanges have killed at least 268 people on the Lebanese side, most of them Hezbollah fighters but also 40 civilians, according to an AFP tally.
On the Israeli side, 10 soldiers and six civilians have been killed, according to the Israeli army.
The fighting has also displaced tens of thousands of residents on both sides of the border and Israel has repeatedly warned that it might use force against Hezbollah to secure its residents' return amid ongoing indirect negotiations over a political solution.
I'll bet a poll in Berlin in January 1945 would have found that 71% of those polled believe that the Fuehrer is well on his way to winning the war.
An Israel war against Lebanon will not lead to the complete elimination of Hezbollah but to a major destruction of the country. A destroyed Lebanon is a Hezbollah dream. It will lead to crippling whatever components are still resisting the disintegration of Lebanon. It will allow the Iranian Regime to turn Lebanon into a province of the Islamic Republic. The border Israel will then become a permanent active front line.
The US and Israel should work with their allies on crippling the Iranian Regime, then all the Iranian proxies, including Hezbollah will shrink and disappear.
Joe, where were you? Lebanon is already an Iranian province, and Hezbollah operates in every region. The West does not seek to cripple Iran; they never have.
The sanctions against Russia are far more severe than those against Iran, despite the fact that Russia outperforms most Western countries economically. The West you're referring to is dying; it's no longer strong, and will soon be irrelevant.
