Report: Paris behind recent Israel-Hezbollah de-escalation

The recent de-escalation in hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah is not due to the bad weather situations but rather due to a French mediation, European diplomatic sources said.

“The two sides positively responded to the mediation that was carried out by the head of the French Directorate General for External Security, Nicolas Lerner, during his visit to Beirut, which included a meeting with a senior Hezbollah official,” the sources told Asharq al-Awsat newspaper in remarks published Thursday.

“Paris believes that the mere indirect agreement on de-escalating the confrontation in south Lebanon will push for pacification, which is supposed to begin in Gaza and automatically spread to the northern front,” the sources added.

Does the very fact that the Lebanese Armed Forces do absolutely nothing to try and end the hostilities on the southern border with Israel mean that the Government of the country has raised its hands and just couldn't care less what happens on sovereign Lebanese territory?
