Sayyed: Miqati’s Position as Prime Minister is a Catastrophe for Lebanon

Former General Security chief Jamil al-Sayyed slammed on Monday Prime Minister Najib Miqati’s assumption of the premiership, accusing him of only serving his personal interests.

He told MTV television: “His position at the head of the government is the biggest catastrophe for Lebanon.”

“Miqati only intervenes in matters when his interests are at stake, similar to what is happening regarding the administrative appointments,” he explained.

“The prime minister will never become a political leader because such a position requires traits that he does not have,” continued Sayyed.

He added: “The state in Lebanon does not exist for there to be a government. Distribution of power along sectarian considerations are ruling the country.”

Furthermore, he noted that Miqati’s positions against Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun stem from his need to gain supporters among Lebanon’s Sunnis.

On Miqati and the government’s position on the Syrian crisis, Sayyed remarked: “Miqati is not obligated to oppose Syrian President Bashar Assad, but he should not forget that Syria is the reason behind his wealth and current political standing.”

The former General Security chief wondered: “Would former Premier Saad Hariri distance himself from developments in Saudi Arabia should the situation there take a similar turn of events as Syria?”

Lebanon has chosen to distance itself from the developments in Syria, which has sparked criticism from the March 14-led opposition and Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat.

You mean Hzb El Kzb & Erhab? They have no right to have the word "God" associated with their anti humanity and anti civilization party. Just like their leader, they belong in the sewer.

mikati is a great man, that follows the constitution, if they dont like the constitution that's their problem. but legally speaking mikati has every right to ask for what he did. the only reason they all attack him is because he is the only person with clean hands and good intentions, and the only person with that doesn't owe anyone outside Lebanon anything.

You should have remained in the Jail Cell, you are a thief Syrian dog and you have not done your job well as a former gov employee but rather you sold the secret service info to the Syrian secret service, you destroyed our internal security affairs and should have been hanged just like those who dealt with Israel.

Agree with Sayyed. Lebanon needs Saniura as PM
