Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, who has been negotiating on behalf of Hezbollah, has renewed his call for a ceasefire in the country amid continued Israeli attacks.

“I want the cease-fire yesterday, today and tomorrow,” he said in an interview with The Washington Post.

Berri also affirmed his support for the details of U.S. mediator Amos Hochstein’s ceasefire plan.

After the interview was published, Berri’s spokesman told Lebanese media that a comment attributed to him about Iran was “untrue” and that he had responded to a question about Iranian funding of Hezbollah by saying: “This is common knowledge, and you back Israel.”

Berri had been initially quoted as saying: “I don’t deny that Iran helps Hezbollah. Even Hezbollah says so. But if America helps Lebanon, then we will not take orders from Iran.”

Berri negotiating on behalf of Hizb for UN 1701 is surreal! UN 1559 is only solution to end war & Iranian occupation; and restore sovereignty & democracy. Anyone with half a brain knows Hizb arms has nothing to do with protecting Lebanon but turning South into Iranian rocket base endangering its residents. Hizbollah is an Iranian Brigade causing more destruction every day it is not disarmed, its leadership & deputies put in prison & properties confiscated to help displaced. Anyone that helped HizbIran hide arms in residential areas or dig tunnels for Iranian rockets contrary to 1701 must be tried for treason. Netanyahu wants Hizb to retain some arms to he can stay in power instead of prison for war crimes. For permanent peace Army must immediately give an ultimatum to Hizb to surrender all its arms & hideouts. Everyday it wait results in more destruction & innocent lives killed. Thousand volunteers will join army if it needs help to get rid Lebanon of this cancer.
