Mikati says issue of disarming Hezbollah requires 'national consensus'

Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati on Thursday described the ceasefire agreement reached with Israel as “a sort of an executive mechanism for the implementation of Resolution 1701.”

“Our priority is to reach long-term stability and the election of a president,” Mikati added.

Noting that the issue of removing Hezbollah’s weapons “requires national consensus,” the premier said: “We are seeking that the state become the only authority and that the army be in charge of real authority on the ground.”

He also called for “protecting” the army.

The ceasefire agreement reached between Lebanon and Israel on November 27 mentions that Resolution 1701 calls for “full implementation of its predecessor UNSC resolutions, including ‘disarmament of all armed groups in Lebanon.’”

The agreement also says that “starting with the Southern Litani Area,” the Lebanese Armed Forces will “dismantle all existing unauthorized facilities involved in the production of arms and related materiel.”

It adds that also “starting with the Southern Litani Area,” the Lebanese Armed Forces will “dismantle all infrastructure and military positions, and confiscate all unauthorized arms.”

B.S. Not consensus but courage is needed! Hizbollah has proven to be nothing but a criminal Iranian Brigade sacrificing Lebanon for the interest and to protect Iranian Tyrants, as well as train Iran's mercenaries throughout the Arab World. It can't protect or liberate. It is a danger to the South risking any rebuilding effort to be in vain. The ARMY must do its duty and disarm this Iran Foreign Legion that not only risks south security but also civil war. The government must immediately cease all Hizb properties (including gold and bitcoins) to help displaced and bring Hizb leaders to justice. Unfortunately what we have is a Vichy government, political mafia, Useful Idiots (Michel Aoun, Bassil, Frangieh, SSNP) and Trojan Horses (Jumblat, Berri, Mikati). All these must also be brought to justice if Lebanon has to survive and Shia to be free from these brutal Basij.

No it does need consensus.

What you and everyone else should eb doing is forcing the international community especially the The US & France to tell the Mullahs and IRGC to come and get your weapons out ASAP they way you brought them in.

I have said million times Hizb will not surrender their weapons to anyone because they are Iranian weapons. End of.
