Hezbollah official says party to back Franjieh as long as he's in presidential race

The deputy head of Hezbollah's political council, Mahmoud Qmati, has said that his party will do everything it can to facilitate the election of a new Lebanese president.

"As long as (ex-)minister (Suleiman) Franjieh remains running for president, we will support him and won't give up supporting him for this position. But if he reaches another conclusion, we will then consider other candidates," Qmati added.

"We are people of loyalty and commitment and we do not back down," the Hezbollah official said.

".. we do not back down" -> of course you back down. Israelis proved that and that the bluster amounts to but a paper dragon. Unfortunately, it seems Qmati has learned the wrong lessons and that Lebanese citizens will also need to turn them into pulp before they can understand where the country is going. Our future has Franjieh, the Aouns, and many others in the rear view mirror, not anywhere ahead. Hezbollah needs to get with the program if it is to have a chance of devolving into but a political force ... at current course and speed, their ash heap is dead ahead.
