Syrian authorities foiled an attempt by an “armed terrorist group” to infiltrate from Lebanon into Syria, Syria’s state-run news agency SANA said.

According to the news agency, a number of the “terrorist group” members were killed and injured during clashes with the Syrian forces as the others fled back into Lebanese territories.

“The Syrian authorities foiled an attempt by an armed terrorist group that tried to infiltrate from Lebanon into Syria near the border village of Baayoun near Tall Kalakh,” SANA said.

The state-run news agency also reported that the Syrian forces confiscated “Dushka machine-gun, automatic rifles, explosives and bombs.”

The United Nations says more than 9,000 people have been killed in the crackdown by President Bashar Assad's forces on the Arab Spring-inspired uprising that began with pro-democracy protests.

The border area is used by smugglers and by Syrians fleeing the violence in their country to Lebanon.

Lebanon and Syria share a 330-kilometer border but have yet to agree on official demarcation.

Is that what you aspire to (the one with soft spot for Lebanon)? A Lebanon that is ran by an Islamist group loyal to Iran. If so, then we have not learned anything from the Civil war.

Flame thrower, it is a different situation today.. how could u compare arming up during the civil war , compared to now when there is no war at all.

I am for having weapons in the hands of the army only. So your statement reflects your blind prejudice not what I advocate. So let me explicitly say it one more time for you. No one should have any weapons from anywhere other than the Army. So confiscate all other weapons.

And here is the difference in our positions. My position is absolute but your position has a but in it and the but nullifies your position. We are back to square one.

Until the total destruction ideology and dreamed path of resolving this complicated weapon scenario, the armed group will continue to build its own private infrastructure with the Leb tax payers money, continue to build up its security as well as appointing their loyal after the assassinations of their anti-political figures so that in the end of game "Shah Iran" and his followers will be in exile and the political power struggle is non-existent in Lebanon. (i.e. Jumblat, Bashir, Mouawad, Harriri and many others..) these are the facts behind the eliminations and the mafia techniques in the cover-ups (i.e. shoot the shooter=Mughnieh, Ghazi+Ali Kan3an commit suicide?) and make a joke of the readers that a ruler of Lebanon for 30yrs had psychological problems..
