The March 14 opposition is mulling to withdraw its confidence from the government although it needs the support of MP Walid Jumblat’s National Struggle Front to achieve that objective, parliamentary sources said Tuesday.

The sources told al-Liwaa daily, however, that the lawmakers of the NSF would not join the opposition in its attempt to withdraw its confidence from the cabinet or several ministers given that Jumblat is reiterating his support for the government.

The March 14 plan to scrutinize the cabinet would come during a parliamentary session between April 17 and 19 that Speaker Nabih Berri called for on Monday.

The discussions in parliament will be the first of their kind since the formation of Prime Minister Najib Miqati’s government in June last year.

The opposition is dubbing the government as unproductive and criticizing it for involvement in the red diesel scandal and dereliction in the spoiled food scare.

However, its main target is Energy Minister Jebran Bassil whom it accuses of violating the laws mainly in the electricity sector.

it is amazing to see the degree of stupidity and blindness shown by FT :)
instead of defending blindly your FPM ministers from whom a bad odour of corruption is coming out, you should be the first to ask for accountability and transparency.
why defend someone if he is corrupt? let them go after whoever is corrupt and let us see if they can prove it, then we should all judge this person.
as well do not forget what M8 has done previously to stop the gvernment from working, nothing being done now is comparable to that, so calm doen and support the quest for transparency.

Yes, the M14 are so destructive. Just like when they froze the government for over a year and occupied downtown and took over Beirut with armed thugs and had divine victories that destroyed half the country. Hold on that was actually done by your friends in the M8.

Withdrawing confidence is totally democratic unlike Berri not calling parliament to session for over a year which was a totally illegal way of stopping government work.
