Army Launches Investigation into Shaaban’s Death
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةThe Army Command announced on Wednesday that it has launched investigations into the death of al-Jadeed television cameraman Ali Shaaban.
It said in a statement that it has contacted Syria to inquire about the details of the incident in order to determine who should be held responsible for it and prevent similar accidents from taking place in the future.
The army voiced its solidarity with Shaaban’s relatives, saying that it is “keen on ensuring the freedom of the media in covering events taking place at the border with Syria.”
It urged “citizens, journalists in particular, to respect army directions and coordinate their activity with it when dealing with any situation related to danger zones.”
“That will ensure the army’s immediate intervention” should any security incident develop, it explained.
Shaaban was killed on Monday while performing his duty, along with two other colleagues, in the border region of Wadi Khaled.
Reporter Hussein Khreis and cameraman Abed Khayyat, who was lightly wounded in his arm, managed to escape after their car came under a volley of gunfire from the Syrian side of the border.
They shot across the border which is wrong for one, secondly you don't shoot first and ask questions later!
God have mercy on his soul, he was someone that risked his life to show the world the real picture of what is happening.
Good boys, our army makes me proud. I'll be even prouder when they return fire on the Syrian troops.
FT your point would have been valid had the car been driving around inside a conflict zone or in Syria - yes, the car should have been marked up. The folks were inside Lebanese territory, this is a Syrian army error. Indisputable. BTW these are common events during conflicts, admitting the error and bringing the culprits to justice is the way to go
Nothing will be found. If Syria did it the evidence will disappear, and the boot licking M8 gov't will look the other way.
By the way I thought the army was on the border. I will bet this story is circulating in the free Shia parts of Lebanese society. Nassy and Berri are quietly losing support in their own community.
What happened after we investigated the death of the fisher boy with his uncles in the Aboudieh area?
Let me break the news to you, the Lebanese car was shot at by armed terrorists and the border Syrian army has caught the culprit and his name is: Abu Antar
It is a shame how many innocent people have been killed by the same subject.
