Berri Warns against Strife in Region, Welcomes Pope’s Visit to Lebanon
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةSpeaker Nabih Berri warned on Thursday against the ambush set for regional countries, saying that their economic and political powers are being scattered.
“Division is increasing (among the regional countries) and they’re turning into nations governed by the power of arms,” Berri said at the opening of the Languages Faculty at St. Joseph University (USJ).
He expressed fear from the “dark tunnel” that the regional countries have entered.
The speaker hoped that Egypt would be able to overcome its political crisis, the Syrian regime would be able to launch a productive dialogue and that the Palestinians regain their unity.
However, he noted that Lebanon “needs to fortify the safety of its citizens and agree on a strategic plan for development.”
“Dialogue and acceptance of the other should be nationalistic products,” the speaker stated.
Berri welcomed the scheduled visit of Pope Benedict XVI to Lebanon.
The Pope is expected to visit Lebanon in September to preach peace and unity for Christians in the Middle East.
Benedict will also bring a message of "peace in the Middle East," where violence has raged in Lebanon's neighbor Syria for a year and efforts to resolve the decades-long Israeli-Palestinian conflict are as mired as ever.
ya berr, saftey for its citizen actually means peace. you cannot have peace when the country is held hostage by armed monkeys constantly violating other countries sovernty.. this is an oxy-moron ya moron. if you support hezb's action then pack up and catch the first bus from the dora to gaza and show us rajouletak.
well said forces
you cannot have peace when constantly sovereinty of other countries is breached
Everyone has a comment to say. Regardless of what anyone says, Berri is a Fair Speaker oh Parliament.
Our Government, from both extremes, really do care for a strong, sovereign and happy Lebanon.
Nobody really is out of their way to screw Lebanon.
Comments here sound as if it's the end if Lebanon as we know it. We're too influenced by what our parents and elders think. If only we can look at things in a neutral, objective light.
He is also a mass murderer but i guess that doesnt matter as long as he is a "fair" speaker of parliament. This logic is what is killing lebanon. We are willing to have war lords and corrupt men who openly embezzled money to be our rulers as long as we somehow can benefit our sect or our political party or some leaders can gain votes by allying with a war lord etc. Its never about principles and simply having ZERO tolerence toward our war lords and corrupt thiefs. Berri is both a war criminal and a thief (not only in lebanon but in sierra lone as well).
"they’re turning into nations governed by the power of arms"
he is talking about lebanon governed by the arms of a terrorist militia....
