U.N. Rights Body: Most Houla Massacre Victims were Executed
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةMost of the victims of the massacre in the Syrian town of Houla were summarily executed, the U.N. rights body said on Tuesday, amid global outrage over the killings.
"It's believed that under 20 of the 108 killings can be attributed to artillery and tank fire," said Rupert Colville, spokesman for the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.
"Most of the rest of the victims in Taldo, one of the areas of Houla, were summarily executed in two separate incidents," he said, ahead of a meeting between U.N.-Arab League envoy Kofi Annan and Syrian President Bashar Assad.
Local residents have blamed the executions on a paramilitary group that "essentially supports the government forces," Colville said.
He said it appeared that entire families were shot in their homes.
"What is very clear is that this was an absolutely abominable event that happened in Houla and at least a substantial part of it was summary executions of civilians including women and children," he said.
I guess the regime don't need to use tanks after all. Since they can get into the opposition area without any resistance.
1 Israeli settler injured in Hebron = the 3,500 Palestinians killed at Sabra and Shatila = how many more Syrians to be killed before the world takes notice of the on going slaughter of the Syrian people. The "official count" of 10,000+ is way understated. It is a political number, not a factual number.
Not only are innocent Syrians being slaughtered like animals, but all of the civilized world is made dirty by the fact that we have done nothing to stop this abomination.
"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." Edmund Burke.
It was true 200 years ago as it is today.
you talk horsepoop. Sabra & Shatilla was a Arab on Arab operation ... kinda like Houla except it was Christian Arabs doing the killing instead of Alawite Arabs. And Sabra/Shatilla wasn't anywhere near the numbers you state . Even the inflated PLO figures didn't reach 1,000 dead. And then there was Tel Al-Zaatar and then there was Dammour.
mowaten it s clear how you give excuses to the syrian regime... what do you do with testimonies of people who said that soldiers dscended from the tanks and entered the houses....?
what can people do against tanks? funny guy you are...
oh by the way: bashar is desperate and he is doing everything he can to spread fear among his own people!! what about if you help wounded people to go to hospitals you may get killed by the regime? if you offer blood you get killed? and you still find excuses? you still depict bashar regime as victim of bad terrorists???!!!
