Report: Year-Long Security Plan Requires 50,000 Members

A one-month security plan launched by security forces on Wednesday requires 50,000 members if it were to be implemented the whole year, sources told As Safir daily.

“The worst part of it is that thousands of personnel are used as bodyguards for lawmakers, ministers, judges and embassies, which lead to a security drain,” the sources said in remarks published Thursday.

“They are being used for the prestige of important personalities,” they added.

Around 500 security officers are put at the disposal of four officials alone, a well-informed security source told As Safir.

Road closures in several areas on Wednesday raised doubt on the effectiveness of the security plan of Interior Minister Marwan Charbel.

President Michel Suleiman summoned the heads of security agencies to the cabinet session that was held at Baabda palace. He informed them that the government and members of the national dialogue provided them with the political cover to control security.

“Blocking the airport road is forbidden from now on,” he said.

An average of 125 bodyguards a piece! Are you serious! None of our politicians is worth that kind of cost to Lebanese taxpayers. None, period.

Yeah, 50000 more, means more drivers for the kids and wifes of officials, and yet another 25000 motorcycles without plates driving "legally" in our country.
They are allready too many, they just should start doing what they are paid for. (Paid by salaries I mean)

Leadership, Discipline and disciplinary measures are the main reasons for the poor performance of the lEBANEESE POLICE FORCE.
You travel around the Country Police Stations and you will find major shortage of Policemen and police vehicles (SUV'S)to respond to any Emmergency.
All the ( bodyguards ) or the majority of them should be retrained and redistributed to differrent police stations around the country.
THE ISF should also procure/buy or Seek Donnations for @ least One Thousand Unified colours and Police Marking (English/Arabic) 4 Wheel drive vehicles to replace old one and to Enhance/Improve the Mobility of the police force.

Perhaps even more than 50,000 will be needed considering that the majority of these security officers are incompetent as they were planted by Hariri Mafia when the sama waz zar2a.

50,000 needed to control 5 million that is one officer per 100 people
in Houston Texas the ratio is 1:500 and this is considered a very large forceat 5300 officers to control 2,200.000 in population. What does that tell you about the Lebanese culture?
