For the second time in three days another bank fell the victim of a robbery on Thursday as the thieves managed to escape with large sums of money.

The Fenicia Bank, formerly Bank of Kuwait and the Arab World, in the Beirut district of Ashrafiyeh was robbed by two masked gunmen.

According to the National News Agency, the thieves fled on a stolen motorcycle to Karm al-Zaytoun area, claiming a large amount of cash.

The two assailants forced the employees at gunpoint to open the bank’s cash registers, the NNA said.

Around $50,000 in addition to LL50 million were robbed from the bank.

On Tuesday, Bank Byblos in the town of Shouaifat was robbed by armed men who left two people injured in the second robbery of the same branch in six months.

The recent bank robberies started on June 14 when gunmen entered Federal Bank of Lebanon in the town of al-Damour and later escaped with LL100 million in cash.

The Fenicia Bank is the fifth bank robbery in the past two months.

Several other banks were robbed later including the Societe Generale de Banque au Liban (SGBL) branch in Kfarshima whose thieves escaped with $110,000 in cash.

Unknown assailants also managed to make off with LL64 million and $40,000 from the Dbayeh branch of Banque Libano-Francaise at the end of June.

Hizbushaitan seems to be low on cash, thus not paying its members, so they are helping themselves out from where there is money.

It is normal for theft to increase when the economy deteriorates. The continuing security uncertaintie have kep many tourists and visiting lebanese emigrant out of Lebanon this summer. With millions of USD lost some choose to steal banks hoping that the weak government will never catch them.

Welcome to the new Wild West. Billy the Kid must be turning in his grave! We're much, much, badder than the desperadoes of the old west.

It is so hypocritical for individuals who advocate the shooting of M14 supporters in the head and dissolving them in acid to turn around and accuse an M14 supporter of being fixated on the Party of God and suffering an incurable phobia. Some people are classless and an insult to decency. Talk about double standards: bold, farcical and in your face.

They are capable but they are simply in cahoots. One corrupt hand protecting the other.
