Justice Minister Shakib Qortbawi denied on Thursday that he and Prime Minister Najib Miqati were behind the decision to re-detain the three officers and 5 soldiers, who were held in connection with the killing of Sunni Sheikh Ahmed Abdul Wahed and his companion Mohammed Merheb.

“We didn’t formulate a plan that allows the re-arrest of officers nor we proposed that before the cabinet during its previous session on Monday,” Qortbawi told al-Joumhouria newspaper.

He noted that the public prosecution decided to expand the investigations.

“All I did was brief the cabinet on the decision taken by the public prosecution,” Qortbawi told the daily.

He denied that he agreed with Miqati and Public Prosecutor Saeed Mirza on this decision.

“These reports are fabricated and not true,” the Justice Minister said.

On May 20, Abdul Wahed and his companion were killed at an Army checkpoint in in the Akkar town of al-Kweikhat.

The release of the officers and soldiers on bail last week angered the residents of the district of Akkar, which prompted their arrest once again on Saturday.

Angry protesters flocked the streets condemning the decision taken by the general prosecution as the Free Patriotic Movement led by MP Michel Aoun on Tuesday staged a demonstration that headed from Beirut’s Mathaf district towards the nearby Military Court building to demand the release of the officers and soldiers.

On Monday the relatives of the officers detained in the case of Sheikh Abdul Wahed and a number of army supporters blocked the Sarba-Jounieh road to demand the release of the generals.

- there will be a major war with israel, that will destroy Lebanon to a degree unseen before with the blessing of all countries.
- hizbushaitan is responsible for the upcoming destruction, being in the syro/iranian axis of evil, without the agreement of the majority of the Lebanese.
- in 2006, the refugees from the south went to syria (which they will not be able to do this time round), or came to our regions (which is out of the questions too), so where will they go?
hizbushaitan is responsible for all the deaths of destructions to come, and do not expect us to pay for repairing their destroyed villages, nor expect the Arabs to do so, especially after all the ingratitude of hizbushaitan and aoun towards them.
let them deal with what they did...

geha, you never stop shocking me with your crazy comments. you constantly call half of lebanon traitors and you pre-defend an israeli attack. where did you come from? who do you think you are to predict that any fellow lebanese that could be displaced by an attack by israel on lebanon, would not be welcomed in "our regions"? what region are you talking about? any displaced families from anywhere in lebanon that are forced out by israeli aggression will always be welcomed by the majority of their country men.

i am struggling to understand who you are and where you are from. only an internet troll would wright such rubbish. i wish no harm and destruction on any one, let alone my fellow lebanese. what is happening in syria is a tragedy, but should not involve lebanon. i dont know why you hope it will.
