Gaza Militants Fire Projectiles at Israel

Militants from Gaza on Wednesday fired two projectiles into southern Israel that exploded without causing casualties or damage, a military spokeswoman told Agence France Presse.

"They hit in open areas in the Eshkol region," she said. It was not immediately known if rockets or mortar rounds had been fired.

Late on Tuesday, a rocket from Gaza hit southern Israel, causing no damage.

On Monday, Israel launched four air raids against the Gaza Strip that resulted one Palestinian child wounded, following "continued rocket attacks against the south of Israel," a statement from the military said.

More than 15 rockets had been fired at Israel so far this month, hitting houses twice and "causing damage," according to the army.

There has been a steady increase in rocket fire into southern Israel, with a number of the attacks claimed by radical groups.

On Saturday, the Mujahedeen Shura Council militant faction said it had fired two rockets.

Israel routinely responds to such attacks with air strikes, and last week six Palestinians were killed in two attacks within a 12-hour period.

The last major flare-up in and around Gaza was in June, when militants fired more than 150 rockets at southern Israel, wounding five people, and Israel hit back with air strikes that killed 15 Palestinians.
