Erdogan Tells Syria Allies to Stop Backing 'Brutal' Regime
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةTurkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan urged China, Iran and Russia Sunday to end their support for the Syrian regime, warning that "history will not forgive" their stance in the face of mounting bloodshed.
"Please rethink your current attitude. History will not forgive those who have sided with these brutal regimes," Erdogan said in a speech at a congress of his ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP).
Erdogan, a one-time ally of President Bashar Assad, has become a fervent critic of the regime since a peaceful uprising against Damascus turned into a bloody revolt.
Russia, a traditional Damascus ally, and China have blocked all U.N. Security Council resolutions on the conflict that according to activists has now left around 30,000 people dead in 18 months.
Shiite-led Iran is Syria's closest regional ally and is accused by several Western and Sunni-led Arab nations of providing military aid to Assad's regime.
Turkey backs the Syrian rebels and Erdogan said it is also hosting about 91,000 refugees from the conflict in several border camps.
Too little too late. You have burned Turkey's connections with the West and with the European Union.
Whilst you continue, amongst other things, allowing women (including your own wife and that of your President)to cover their heads, in breach of the constitution of your country you will be pushing Turkey further and further away from the West.
Your army and air force attack Kurdish terrorists across the border in Iraq, and with you that is fine, but when Israel attacks terrorists in Gaza or on ships carrying terrorists you allowed to sail from Turkish ports, you come out strongly against it. You burned your bridges when you ceased the decades long close co-operation with Israel, but in the end only Turkey will suffer from you.
Erdogan has more shown leadership and compassion towards the Syrians uprising than any Arab leaders and speaks the truth, no matter how much the Shia alliance pretend and lie to themselves.
Turkey is hosting the free syrian army, it is allowing foreign intelligence services onto its territory to train and arm them. Erdogan is the one with blood on his hands. History will not forgive Erdogan. The Syrians would solve their problems much more quickly if countries weren't sending weapons and terrorists into Syria.
