Charbel Says Roumieh Prison Under State's Control, Two Security Guards Involved in Prison Break

Interior Minister Marwan Charbel rejected on Wednesday accusations that authorities are not capable of controlling Roumieh prison, revealing that there are only two security guards involved in the prison break carried out by three members of Fatah al-Islam.

Charbel said in comments published in al-Liwaa that some Internal Security Forces members tasked with guarding the facility are “incompetent” as most of them were appointed through their connections not based on their efficiency.

On Tuesday, the military court wrapped up investigations in the Roumieh scandal with the number of detained security guards reaching 13 after authorities discovered last week that three Fatah al-Islam prisoners had fled the jail at least a month ago.

Media reports said Monday that eleven security personnel and two officers were referred to the Military Court over the prison break on charges of "negligence and direct responsibility."

Security forces on Sunday raided Bloc B in Roumieh prison, where Fatah al-Islam inmates are jailed, seizing prohibited items, including cellphones and sharp objects, media reports said.

The minister pointed out that resolving the lingering crisis at Roumieh prison should be “political” in the first degree.

“Instead of disciplining some security members over their negligence, we should punish politicians who are not exerting any effort to resolve the crisis,” Charbel said.

He noted that the real crisis at Roumieh prison isn't linked to the conditions of the Islamist inmates, but the poor conditions that prisons across Lebanon are suffering from.

“We should swiftly construct new prisons, hasten the trials of the prisoners and appoint competent security guards to deal with the inmates,” Charbel said.

Roumieh, the oldest and largest of Lebanon's overcrowded prisons, has witnessed sporadic prison breaks in recent years and escalating riots over the past months as inmates living in poor conditions demand better treatment.

how about the new tv guy?(as in the guy who tried to burn it)
how about the moqdad clan?
how about the riots when the army shot that cleric (and regardless of what happened, it is mandatory that the officers are taken in for questionning. unless you completely dont care about judicial processes and such).

and thats just in the past year or so.

cute FT :)

so you blame M14 for the moqdad clan's behavior. that in itself is stupid enough that i wont reply to it

second, if you dont like someone, that doesnt mean they are M14 allies. as a matter of fact, that is what you and your clown of a boss do. make associations to make your opponents a ba3 ba3. Nahr el bared terrorists were bombed and arrested with the full blessing and support of M14. danish embassy salafis were acting out of their own will and their actions were denounced. (remember your leaders support these actions when your side does them)

second its funny you should mention someone overturning direct orders from their superiors when aoun prides himself to be the biggest "moutamarred" (his words not mine)

lol are you trying to make an argument that under this government things are better in any way?

trying to set a building on fire is a felony (even if you do it with a tire). thats without mentioning that they were shooting at the building.

the moqdad clan were allowed to grow and arm themselves in hizbullah strongholds, where the army or ISF literally got attacked if they tried to approach it.

Just because HA is selling out the people they protected to gain some points, it doesnt mean things have changed

el fare2 bayne w baynak enno ma 3ende m3allmin.

As you are referring to me as an LF member, let me point out something to you.

LF has been following the same politics. those kingpins who you mentionned that became M14 are their own parties, who decided to take the LF's view on things. Why should i mind? its not like everyone is in this for the fight. thats why you make arguments. to convince the other side of your point of view so they would join you.

FPM on the other hand, took the side it was fighting and criticising and calling terrorists not so long ago.
