South Lebanon Prosecutor Judge Samih al-Hajj on Tuesday filed a lawsuit against persons unknown on charges of trying to assassinate Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun in the coastal city of Sidon in September.

Media reports said Aoun's convoy came under gunfire in Sidon on September 22 while he was returning from Jezzine.

Aoun's press office confirmed the incident after first denying it for “security reasons.”

On September 23, Aoun announced that he had escaped the fourth assassination attempt in his life.

“This is the fourth and the attempt failed today but we haven't found the suspects yet,” he said.

“Why do they want to assassinate me? I haven't killed anyone indiscriminately,” Aoun said.

The failure to kill him “politically and morally” was the reason behind the incident, he added.

An Nahar quoted FPM media sources as saying that a shot was fired at a four-wheeler in the convoy, causing no casualties.

Several March 14 politicians and media reports have questioned whether the assassination attempt had really taken place.

Aoun condemned the skepticism, saying that “some sides have stooped so low in questioning the issue.”

“Security agencies that deny the attempt on my life may be linked to it,” he said.

In addition, he slammed claims that the incident was aimed at bolstering his popularity ahead of the 2013 parliamentary elections.

“There is physical evidence and the judiciary to prove the matter,” said the lawmaker.

Conflicting reports had emerged over the exact location of the incident.

Aoun was returning from a tour of the southern region of Jezzine when the attack happened.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, after the weekly meeting of the Change and Reform bloc, Aoun said: “I'm practicing self-restraint so that I don't reveal information I have about the attempt on my life.”

“I reserve the right to file a lawsuit against anyone who tried to exploit the attempt on my life,” he added.

Jajajajajaja he wants attention. He had someone shoot at the car the day after it supposedly happened (he didn't want to show the evidence on the 'D' day.)

Perhaps this procedure can get him some money from the State? Bachar's 7anafiye will run out of cash soon.

persons unknown, kinda reminds me of the guys who supposedly tried to shoot him on October 12 1990 depending on which of Aoun's medias you followed the shooter was a Christian, a Shiite, a Qawmi a Baathist who was whisked away by Aoun's entourage and disappeared never to be heard from again. Aoun again exploited this fake attempt to claim heroics only to desert his command less than fifteen hours later.

funny how he refused investigation and the security forces to inspect. sounds like what hezbolah do when grenades or homemade bombs go off in their territory....

wasn't this already proven to be a fraud--Aoun, you aren't going to garner any sympathy for filing a lawsuit which you know is a lie.

This is why people laugh at the party leaders in lebanon--not just Aoun, but just about all of them from all camps. The worst thing is that their followers don't question anything and they are led like sheep.

@FT , Your general is practicing self-restraint? its a new one... He never did before, i think those insuline shots he takes for his cholesterol and diabetes are keeping him quiet. By the way, how come he doesnt put to light who wants to " kill " him? please do come forward. the governement is theirs, the power in the country is theirs, the judiciary is theirs. Who is obstructing now? The only thing your general is , is a coward , i think he doesnt havee to know but we all do know who killed his soldiers and butchered them in baabda when he ran away at a top speed of 150km/h. I think he remembers who ( which i think is guilty of Wissam's death= jamil el sayyed) used to beat up FPM supporters like yourself few years ago and emprisonned them.

@FT , your general said yesterday im not accusing syria or acquitting them, then he says : i dont think syria has the capacity or the means of that kind of assassination. He cannot help himself, he loves syria, he is one of her many bootshiner. He needs his check for financing OTV and his multiple hundreds of bodyguard around rabieh. He has been diagnosed with Alzheimers and forgot everything. but his supporters. why are they following him ? exept their hate for Hariri and geagea?

@ FT , and this funny assassination attempt, lol he and geagea are not so different after all. one imaginary shooter supposedly trying to kill him cause he is the rock of this country and the middle east and the other probably going to be stung by a bee that was on his flower and thought it was a bullet.
March 8th= Murders, March 14th= Pussies. March 8th = Iran + Syria. March 14th = America + Israel. This is the only and true equation of this poor country that lebanese is
