ISF Denies Hand Grenades Located in Tripoli Targeting Miqati

Internal Security Forces general directorate denied on Tuesday reports that two grenades found in the northern city of Tripoli were targeting Prime Minister Najib Miqati or any other official.

“The two hand grenades were tossed away from the road and we presume that whoever put them wanted to get rid of them,” the statement said.

The communique said that the first grenade was found in al-Mina in Tripoli on December 23 and was detonated by a military expert, while the second grenade, which was locate in al-Maarad area, was removed from the area.

As Safir newspaper reported earlier on Tuesday that two hand grenades were found on the road leading to Miqati's residence in Tripoli.

According to the daily, workers in a company carrying on a residential project in the area located on Sunday a stun grenade on the side road and informed the premier's guards, who in turn contacted a military expert.

The newspaper reported that another bomb was located by the workers at the same place on Monday.

Security sources told As Safir that the road is used by Miqati when he's heading to his residence in Tripoli.

The sources said a stun grenade exploded in the same area on December 21, hours after the premier headed back to Beirut.
