Report: Al-Rahi Does Not Adopt Orthodox Gathering Electoral Draft Law
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةMatonite Patriarch Beshara al-Rahi has reportedly not adopted the Orthodox Gathering electoral draft law, said al-Mustaqbal daily on Thursday.
A source close to the patriarch explained that al-Rahi “had not favored any electoral law over another, simply voicing his rejection to the 1960 law.”
“The patriarch had allowed dialogue at Bkirki for Christian factions to reach an agreement over a new law where he simply encouraged their agreement over any draft law that appeases Christians and the Lebanese people,” he added.
“The patriarch did not adopt any law, but he outlined the general characteristics of a law that should achieve fair representation,” he continued.
The subcommittee resumed its meetings on Tuesday with representatives from the rival March 8 and 14 camps discussing a new electoral draft law.
The latest suggestion that received the backing of top rival Christian parties -The Free Patriotic Movement, the Lebanese Forces, the Phalange Party and the Marada movement - was that of the Orthodox Gathering which calls for each sect to elect its own MPs under a proportional representation system based on a nationwide district.
But the proposal was criticized by President Michel Suleiman, Premier Najib Miqati, National Struggle Front leader Walid Jumblat and several other Christian MPs and officials.
The cabinet has also referred a bill to parliament that calls for dividing Lebanon into 13 medium districts based on proportional representation.
This report by Al Mustaqbal newspaper is trying to creat a schism between the Christian political powers and Bkerki... a typical Haririst and Joumblatti plot. Let us hope the Christians have finally learned to see into this and not fall victim to it as always.
The Batrak did not voice his support to the Orthodox law, but that doesn't mean he rejects it. Silince over something usually means secret agreement. I say Al Mustaqbla newspaper should concentrate its propoganda for the lost FM supporters instead, who have grown their beards, shaved their moustaches, and lifted their robes over their ankles while cheering for Al Assir.
the filthy zionist scum trash and filth is using insults every time someone says something they don't like.
especially when it's true.
i still say that he should shut up and stick to prayers and help the needy: that is his job!!! i don t change my mind like sissy boy and FPM!!!
but when we see how much you praise his points of view usually it s fun to see how disappointed you are by minimizing his words! lol a real pleasure to see you knee-deep in your contradictions!!! hahaha!!
al rahi and others should stick to religion... approving the fact that he meddles with politics show how sectarian you are sissy boy...you cannot deny this!!!!
and you are far far away from having a secular mentality, fanatic little FPMer....
hahahaha! al mustaqbal newspaper. I think Shtrumphette is panicking from losing its hegemony over the Sunnis and mostly seeing the Christians finally getting to elect their own representatives
You are saying exactly what the Al Mustaqbal paper is saying that Al Raii has neither adopted nor rejected the Orthodox Law. What is then wrong with the article of Al Mustqbal.
The real issue is with people like you who reacts so negatively what ever their opponents do or say (M8 and M14 alike) out of mistrust and fear. The result of those hyper reactions is increased mistrust and fear among the Lebanese and havoc in the country.
the filthy zionist wants to be accepted by normal readers so here and there he agrees to something.
the filthy zionist scum trash and filth are unhappy because they know m8 will win this elections and so they spread typical hate propaganda
and of course the naharnet editor have nothing against it.
as long as you don't touch zionists here, everything is fine.
