Christian Summit in Bkirki Discusses Electoral Law and Geagea Absent for Security Reasons

A statement issued by Bkirki after a Christian summit on Friday called for agreeing on an electoral law that secures fair and just representation for all Lebanese communities.
"The participants in the summit were Free Patriotic Movement leader Michel Aoun, Phalange Party leader Amin Gemayel and Marada Movement chief Suleiman Franjieh,” the statement said, remarking that Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea was absent for security reasons.
"The meeting discussed the Orthodox Gathering's draft electoral law in addition to other proposals that secure fair Christian representation,” al-Jadeed television reported.
OTV revealed that Bkirki's meeting was scheduled for next week but was held on Friday due to the latest developments on the Lebanese scene.
The parliamentary subcommittee completed on Friday the discussions on electoral draft-laws and the number of MPs, and is set to convene again next week to announce the minutes of the deliberations, its chairman MP Robert Ghanem announced.
On Sunday, the Christian four-party committee on the electoral law agreed to endorse the electoral system proposed by the so-called Orthodox Gathering, under which each sect would elect its own lawmakers.
Meanwhile, President Michel Suleiman had announced his rejection of the Orthodox draft law, describing it as unconstitutional. March 14 Independent Christian leaders had held a press conference in which they also criticized the proposal.

how many summits, committees and subcommittees would it take to realize the failure of the political legislative system in lebanon?
ya jameaa, we have 128 mps elected by the people and getting paid hefty sums of money at the expense of the poor lebanese taxpayers for NOT doing their legislative job in the parliament.
these elected officials are unfortunately degrading themselves and betraying the trust that people gave them while waiting to rubber stamp orders and decisions taken in dark room meetings by some known or maybe unknown political and religious figures or "faalieett" without having any significant input or reservations on these decisions and without seeing wether or not they serve best the national interests.
it is a sad situation our government put us in today; democracy has seen much better days in lebanon!!!
