More than 265,000 Syrian Refugees Aided in Lebanon
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةThe number of Syrian refugees in Lebanon receiving aid from the United Nations, the Lebanese government and non-governmental organizations has now exceeded 265,000, said the latest report by the Office of the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees.
More than 174,000 Syrian refugees are registered in Lebanon, 99,000 others are being processed, the UNHCR said.
The rate of displaced Syrians entering Lebanon hasn't changed, it said, adding that most of them are arriving in the country from Homs, Idlib, Damascus and Aleppo.
U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees Antonio Guterres said Wednesday that the number of people fleeing fighting in Syria could reach 1.1 million by June.
The international community needed to support a $1 billion plan, pushed by his and other international groups, to address the needs of those displaced by the Syrian conflict, he said.
The humanitarian situation in Syria is "the most dramatic crisis we are facing today," he said, adding developed nations, including those in Europe, needed to accept more refugees, as Turkey, Jordan, and Lebanon have done.
