Diplomats Hint Syria’s Involvement in UNIFIL Bombing
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةDiplomatic sources have hinted about Syria's involvement in the roadside bomb that ripped through a U.N. convoy in southern Lebanon on Friday after threats by Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem that the European Union would regret its sanctions against President Bashar Assad.
The sources told An Nahar and al-Joumhouria dailies on Saturday that the bombing came after Muallem threatened that “Syria will not remain silent” to the EU measures against Assad.
The Europeans "erred when they attacked the president and when they adopted sanctions that harm the Syrian people," he said earlier in the week.
The attack on the Italian contingent hints that the messages sent to Europe, which began with the kidnapping of the seven Estonian tourists in the Bekaa valley in March, are on the rise, the diplomatic sources said.
They did not rule out attempts by the Syrian regime to create “distractions elsewhere” if it sees that its existence is in danger.
The roadside bomb ripped through the convoy carrying Italian peacekeepers, wounding six of them in the first such attack since 2008.
The explosion struck as the peacekeepers' vehicles traveled south on the main highway in Sidon, leaving a crater in the road and scattered debris from the charred U.N. vehicles. A security source said the bomb contained around 10 kilograms of explosive material.
Anyone can hint to anyone, and anyone can print stories about anything. In any case, the immoral West, and the US in particular, typically have three parties to blame, as always, and they are Al Qaeda, Syria and Iran. They do not see Israel's crimes and brutality, or Saudi Arabia's or Bahrain's or any of their friends. This old broken record routine is no longer surprising or convincing anyone anymore.
Look at this propaganda trash! Israel and it's puppets have a long history of killing UN soldiers, not Syria.
Yea khodr and bashar is the definition of good morals isn't he? Between him and his dad they have killed 40000 people. They will burn in hell with their allies.
To Khodr, You said the US turns blind eye when their friends are in the wrong. How about Mubarak? They haven't turned a blind eye on him have they?! Or you did not want to see that!!Shame on the people who support regimes that murder their own people the way Assad is doing...and others...
To dear Khodr....Syria is capable of anything, when Assad doesn't have the moral value and kill his own people ruthlessly, you think he is going to care about anyone else? And one more thing....you think anything can happen in the south without HA knowing about it? Assad and Nassrallah should be tried fo war crimes, and then hanged!
to john: not that I back assad, far from it.. but the US *did* back Mubarak for 30 years. They only stopped when they saw they had no choice. US has, and always will, act in its own interest. Just like any other country would.
It is not in a nation's self-interest to commit genocide or to allow slavery. Both policies are self-destructive, for they tell the citizens that justice is not a government priority, because it looks at them through narrow ideological filters. An arbitrary government is a weak government.
Israel, Syria, Iran, Hezbollah Al Shaitan and AlQaeda all played dirty games in Lebanese politics suporting any terrorist organization against Lebanese and foreigners
The days of impunity are over... sadly tyrants are most virulent when they realize their end is near! Let's hope before June 2013 the truth behind all assassination targetting Cedar Revolution leaders is known. A year is a long time in the life of the Arab Spring!
how naive? any smart person would first suspect Syria's enemies to pull out an act like that. "Muallem said this" and was stupid to set himself up for finger pointing if something like this did go down.
I am not saying it is not syria who did it. Maybe they did (real dumb), or maybe they did not. But these days it seems people want to accuse them of everything. Maybe they assasinated JFK too guys. common now.
