Geagea Denounces Cabinet Tardiness in Tackling Security Threats

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea urged the government on Saturday to resign over its procrastination in calling for an urgent meeting to deal with the security dangers spreading out in the city of Tripoli and along the northeastern border.

“I can not understand how the cabinet has failed so far to call for an emergency session to tackle the dangerous security situation in Tripoli and the northeastern border,” said Geagea in a statement released by his press office.

Calling on the government to leave the Lebanese alone and resign, Geagea added: “The cabinet is effortless while the city of Tripoli is on the brink of a volcano. I can't believe how the cabinet stays motionless knowing of the direct and public threats launched by the Syrian regime against hundreds of Lebanese villages.”

“The only thing this cabinet can do is leave the Lebanese alone,” he concluded.

Lebanese authorities have officially distanced themselves from the fighting in Syria, but the country has found itself increasingly embroiled in the civil war.

Lebanon has already seen a spillover of the Syrian conflict in recent months, with frequent clashes in the northern and eastern areas of the country.

Syrian troops have also on several occasions fired shells over the border, while the Damascus regime has accused Lebanon of allowing Sunni fighters to cross illegally into Syria to join the rebels.

It warned on Thursday that its forces would fire into Lebanon if "terrorist gangs" continued to infiltrate the country.

Geagea calls for the government to step down by Press Release. What? Was he too busy checking the Help Wanted ads looking for his next job?

The government has made good progress arresting the kidnapping cartels and other criminals. It is the courts that release these thugs on bail.

The security in Tripoli and northeastern Lebanon does need to be stepped up but carefully so as not to cause more trouble.

If and when real trouble breaks out that is when the government should clamp down hard. Arrests, curfews and a strong constant presence.

Geagea once again shows how to trip over his own two feet while getting up out of his chair ...
