Gemayel Calls for Dialogue: We're Confident Suleiman Will Safeguard Lebanon against Dangers
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةPhalange Party leader Amin Gemayel stated on Friday that “it has become urgent” to hold national dialogue sessions following the cabinet's resignation, noting that he “is betting on the important role President Michel Suleiman can play in preserving stability in the country.”
"Suleiman plays an important role in preventing vacuum,” Gemayel said in phone call with LBCI television after Prime Minister Najib Miqati had announced the cabinet's resignation.
He added: “we are fully confident that Suleiman will bear the responsibility of safeguarding the country against internal and foreign dangers.”
The former president urged all political leaders to join forces with Suleiman, also calling on Miqati to collaborate to “find a way out” of the current situation.
"We also urge for supporting the army and the security forces in their mission.”
Miqati announced his resignation after a cabinet session in which he failed to pass the extension of Rifi's term and the formation of the committee to oversee the elections.
Miqati stressed during his resignation speech that all political forces must shoulder their responsibilities to “pull Lebanon out of the unknown.”
Suleiman and Mikati were the impediments to moving forward. Any government formed by Suleiman will quickly find itself even more ineffectual than the current government as events in Lebanon spiral out of control.
The current Government was not formed by Suleiman, rather it was forced on Suleimman and most Lebanese by Hezb.
Suleiman accepted the Presidency to moderate government policy. The mistake was FPM & HAs in accepting Suleiman as President.
Listen McKini. We know you re not Irish but one of the HA lackies here. You ll only be happy with a Farsi government.
Anyways you guys are good at dealing with "impediments". You just plant bombs like cowards and point weapons at other Lebanese.
"Dialogue is the only way to rescue Lebanon and a salvation government must be formed," Mikati
There is no common basis for dialog ... the M8 and M14 camps are at loggerheads, their positions are largely diametrically opposed. Lebanon must chose between the crony capital neoliberalism of M14 or the nationalism of M8.
Until there is a clear cut mandate there will only be stalemate. With current and coming issues any technocratic or salvation government will soon find itself mired in disputes, hopelessly ineffectual to manage the hard choices Lebanon needs and will need to make.
Without hard choices Lebanon will descend into social and economic turmoil and given Lebanon's huge debt, much owed in other currencies, the government will face bankruptcy. This in turn brings in the IMF where the neoliberal banksters pillage Lebanon.
Given the strife in Lebanon what is happening in Greece and Cyprus will look like a stroll in the park.
PS:
I'm not with HA ... I'm in Aoun's camp. Probably just an unimportant subtlety in your world.
so mcknil, u think that if m8 stayed in power everything is going well?
