Traffic Back to Normal Near Wardieh Gas Station, Toll Revised

Security forces on Tuesday reopened the road where a deadly fuel tank explosion ripped through a gas station near Beirut’s Adliyeh area a day earlier.

Television footage showed traffic was back to normal at the road after removal of debris.

At least three people were killed and 14 were injured in the blast that caused extensive material damage to the station and surrounding buildings on Monday.

The National News Agency initially put the death toll of the incident at seven. But it was later revised.

Among the dead was the owner of the Wardieh station, Joseph Abu Nasr, and two workers. The station is located near what is known as the Fiat bridge.

Investigation was still underway at what caused the blast. But media reports said it was most likely caused by a fuel leak.

Caretaker Premier Saad Hariri gave instructions to treat the wounded at hospitals specialized in burns at the expense of the health ministry.
