Aoun to Boycott Parliamentary Consultations: We Support Salam to Head New Govt.

Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun announced on Friday his support for MP Tammam Salam's candidacy for the premiership.

He said: “We back Salam to head a cabinet of unity and stability.”

He made his remarks during a brief press conference after a meeting for the Change and Reform bloc.

Moreover, he added: “We will boycott the parliamentary consultations because we feel like it and not because we are taking a position against President Michel Suleiman.”

In the evening, at a dinner banquet organized by FPM's Engineers Committee, Aoun said: "There is a cabinet change and we want a government of national unity and understanding that can seriously exert efforts to preserve the country."

Slamming his rivals in Najib Miqati's cabinet, Aoun added: "They spoke of self-dissociation, but they dissociated themselves from people ... and the invasion of Syrian refugees happened until their number reached the one million figure."

"Syrian refugees are now consuming 800 megawatts of electricity and who can guarantee that they will not demand jobs in the future? Don't we have the Palestinian experience?" Aoun warned.

The binding parliamentary consultations are underway at the Baabda Palace.

They are aimed at reaching an agreement among parliamentary blocs over naming a candidate to head a new government.

They are set to conclude on Saturday.

The March 14 alliance, Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat, and Speaker Nabih Berri's Development and Liberation bloc have so far endorsed Salam's candidacy for the premiership.

what a bunch of losers

Thumb lebanon_first 05 April 2013, 16:41

what do u exactly want to boycott? parliamentary consultations? what is this exactly? and why are you boycotting?

Thumb lebanon_first 05 April 2013, 17:10

ok. Now the next problem is to agree on ministers. Then the next problem is agree on a ministerial statement. After that, to agree on an electoral law. if these 3 issues get solved, our beloved country will have the tools to get out of the mess it is in.

forget about naharnet intentions for a moment,,, but as a sect leader and an MP he should know better how to choose his words,, and these are his words and how he said it; “We will boycott the parliamentary consultations because we feel like it and not because we are taking a position against President Michel Suleiman.” so i say the man is more then arrogant

Repetez apres moi les enfants. "الله يلعن بشار"

Za2if- You really can't blame FT. what he did was a knee jerk reaction that is in the DNA of most Lebanese. Being objective is a foreign concept that is still in its infancy stages in Lebanon.

A boycott is an act of voluntarily abstaining from using, buying, or dealing with a person, organization, or country as an expression of protest, usually for social or political reasons. Sometimes, it can be a form of consumer activism.

Le chant du cor.
O rage, O désespoir, O destin ennemi,
J’avais pourtant cru à tes belles promesses
Tu m’as abandonné, toi, Hassan mon soutien
Moi qui me voyais Président Triomphant !

miqati was hand picked by nasrlah 2 years ago pre-syrian revolution. After the Syrian earthquake the hizb/amal realized that the rules of the game are changing and they are actually doing the right thing here to fend off lebanon. hizbala cant take on 17 million Syrians, 0.5 million of which are inside lebanon. The sunis are the rising force in the region whether you like it or not, from Egypt to Syria. There is no shame in admission that HA can not rule lebanon alone. And whether you like it or not it is not small matter at all that Hizbala endorses salam who was hariri nominee. It is only a matter of time before Hizbala opens up to hariri himself, mark my words.

Every time Hizbala opens up to Hariri btetla3 dake bi Aoun.

Aoun is right, There is a Palastinian and Syrian problem. There must be a solution,
