Blast in Central Damascus Kills 13

A blast in the central Damascus district of Marjeh on Tuesday killed at least 13 people, Syrian state television reported, a day after Prime Minister Wael al-Halqi survived a bomb attack elsewhere in the capital.

"The number of casualties in the cowardly terrorist blast targeting the commercial and historic center of Damascus in the Marjeh district rose to 13 martyrs and more than 70 injured," state television reported, citing the interior ministry.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported "14 dead, including nine civilians and five members of the security forces, in a car bomb attack near the old interior ministry headquarters."

The toll could rise further because a number of the wounded were in critical condition, the monitoring group said.

"Internationally-financed and -supported terrorism committed a terrible massacre against civilians in the commercial and historic center of Damascus," state television reported, citing an official source.

Official channels broadcast footage showing smoke billowing over the site of the explosion, which blew out the windows of nearby cars, knocking off the bumpers and starting fires.

Uniformed and armed plainclothes security forces could be seen running near the scene, as residents fled.

Several mutilated bodies could be seen lying in the street, and at least one body wrapped in a white sheet was laid out alongside an ambulance.

Fire engines were at the scene with firefighters battling several blazes.

"What mistake have we committed? I was going to work. Look at the bodies. Is this the freedom they want?" a bystander said to state media.

The attack came a day after a blast in the Mazzeh neighborhood of the capital targeting Halqi.

The car bomb, which exploded as his convoy passed through the upscale neighborhood, killed one of his bodyguards and five other people, according to the Observatory.

The blast, apparently detonated by remote control, took place in the well-secured Mazzeh district, which is home to politicians, embassies, government offices and intelligence facilities.

Halqi, who was appointed prime minister in August 2012 after his predecessor Riad Hijab defected to the opposition, is the latest in a growing list of regime officials to be targeted for assassination.

In July 2012, a suicide bomb attack killed Syria's defense minister and deputy defense minister and seriously wounded the interior minister.

Damascus has seen a wave of major bombings in recent weeks, including on April 9, when a massive blast in the center of the city killed at least 15 people.

ASSad State TV...nothing to trust here.

Missing mohammad_ca 30 April 2013, 12:24

Are you really that thick headed? Do you believe what ASSad media tells you? There are daily terrorist bombings taking place in Syria through the use of ASSad warfare...

Missing mohammad_ca 30 April 2013, 13:16

as i've told you before the source for that claim is a website that claims that hizbolla is a terrorist group, do you believe that as well?

Missing abraham 30 April 2013, 14:58

yeaa
we want al jazeera and Arabiyeh news

Missing mohammad_ca 30 April 2013, 16:25

how is it irrational? If you are providing "facts" from a website then you are admitting that it is a reliable news source. Who is in denial now since that same website lists hizbocrap as a terrorist organization?

Missing mohammad_ca 30 April 2013, 17:04

your example is irrelevant, you have failed to prove that nusra claimed responsibility for x number of attacks, your source is not even a news service but a very questionable website that also equates hizbolla and nusra when it comes to terrorism. Not rocket science.

Missing mohammad_ca 30 April 2013, 17:06

your source is not wikipedia. you need check the references for wikipedia ya zakzak. Wikipedia is not a news source.

RIP all those who died. Just remember everyone that when Rafik Hariri Died and during the so called Million people manifestation there were people from Damascus and other regions of Syria who joined the GET OUT SYRIA thingy. However some of them were Pro Assad others were Anti Assad but they all understood our Cause. So why not Understand their Cause? Those with and Anti Assad and stop saying someone is a Tyrant because before Assad and the FSA are both Tyrants Our so called Leaders are Tyrants as well as this is a consensual democracy here = Dictatorship because they never change cousins brothers nephews etc come along. And those who are New For example Ziad Baroud or Marwan Charbel will only come once or twice. the rest is Forever untill we kik them out.

These barbaric random killings should stop. No matter who is doing the bombings, either the Regime or its opponents, they are cold blooded murderers.
