Jumblat Challenges March 14 Forces: We Proved Our Ability to Govern Lebanon
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةNational Struggle Front MP Walid Jumblat said that the new majority proved that it can form a government, noting that it can pass the test and confront the economic and social problems to provide citizens with stability.
“We proved to March 14 forces that we can govern the country, and they have to admit it,” Jumblat told the pan-Arab al-Jazeera news channel on Monday night.
The MP remarked that there is “Lebanese consensus.” He praised the Shiite sect for giving up a minister from its share so that the cabinet would be formed, appreciating Speaker Nabih Berri’s role.
Jumblat denied reports hinting that the previous Saudi-Syrian agreement to solve Lebanon’s crisis will revive again.
He wished on Lebanese Democratic Party leader MP Talal Arslan to back off from his resignation.
The Druze leader stressed on the “special bilateral relations between Lebanon and Syria,” saying that “this is the fate of the humanitarian political relations.”
Meanwhile, the Progressive Socialist Party leader praised in his weekly editorial in the PSP-affiliated al-Anbaa magazine the Turkish parliamentary elections that witnessed the victory of the Justice and Development Party led by Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
“This reflects the Turkish voter’s support for the policies of Erdogan’s government,” he said.
“If only the Arab countries would adopt this example, spare their people oppression, and pave the way for change and freedom of expression,” Jumblat added.
Yeh 5 months must be one hell of an accomplishment for you, pat yourself on the back, 5 months is a short time for you
The government isn't even a day old and he's already saying they've proved that they can run Lebanon. Proof is there when you ACTUALLY do something, not when you do nothing but talk.
Same old same old, Lebanese. If they don't form a government, you complain that they can't form a government, and when they do you complain that they did.
This country will never be fixed as long as the government is perceived through sectarian eyes. No one gave praise to the shiites for giving up a ministerial post, while all the other factions wanted go gain more.
How can you in 3 days: go to Damascus to meet Bashar; solve the blessing of the government by Syrian authorities; come back and convince the others; get rid of your main oponent (funny, by the way: do you remember who was killed by who in the Chouf in 2008?); be part of a government where the SSNP has a minister; and praise the victory of Erdogan in Turkey and quote them as an example "If only the Arab countries would adopt this example, spare their people oppression, and pave the way for change and freedom of expression"... Bashar will be happy with that one, for sure! Well, only Djumblat could do it!
These Shiias are so good, giving up some ministries to others, something no other community would ever do. Are they so much better than others, or is their "participation" allready guaranteed well enough by the 30'000 saroukh? I wonder...
My dear Walid, all you have proved is that you can follow orders. The majority has formed a half ass government after 5 months and a green light from Syria. Even your allies are not happy with this government. let's see how Ali Kanso will govern and then you can talk
After 5 months of trying, M8 forms a government from which one of its constitutent members immediately resigns. This government has yet to formulate a policy statement, have it submitted to Parliament and win a vote of confidence so that it may actually and formally be a government.
Yet Jumblatt has the balls to say that what has been done so far proves that M8 can "govern". Govern what? Govern Aoun? Govern the Shia so that it surrenders a meaningless portfolio in a meaningless Council of Ministers set up as a cover under which Hezbollah can further proliferate and consolidate its power in Lebanon?
Government is about creating order out of disorder. In a democratic society, it is about creating order within the framework of a constitution with fully functioning state institutions. M8 is comprised of people who reached power not through state institutions but in spite of them. Hezbollah through their weapons, Aoun through lies, and deceit.
Government! M8! HA!!!
Talking one day after victory, dont support you to say and worst believe"we can do better than you", let time to pass to see where the country is guided, and only in this point, you can talk, as long as, you have the enught value to do, now it is too early, only events in all sectors, will give the best background above decision 13/JUNE/2011
What Jumblat said is proof that he, and all other so called "leaders", think the Lebanese population is dumb.
I think he's right, the population is dumb for following all these corrupt leaders who work against the interest of Lebanon and the Lebanese! We keep voting for them time after time.
