Syria's Opposition Urges Rebels to Join Qusayr Battle
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةSyria's opposition urged fighters across the country Wednesday to "rush to the rescue" of rebel stronghold Qusayr, while appealing to the international community to set up a humanitarian corridor to the embattled town.
Syria's acting National Coalition opposition chief George Sabra issued the call for rebel reinforcements to the town as Syrian troops backed by fighters Hizbullah battled for control of Qusayr.
"Revolutionary battalions and Free Syrian Army, rush to the rescue of Qusayr and Homs," Sabra said in a statement, urging brigades around the country to send forces and weapons, "however small."
"We call on the international community to open a humanitarian corridor to rescue the wounded and take in medicine and assistance to 50,000 besieged people," he added.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights watchdog estimates around 25,000 civilians are trapped inside Qusayr, with thousands more still in villages around the town in central Homs province bordering Lebanon.
Sabra also urged the U.N. Security Council "to convene an emergency meeting and go beyond expressing concern to action."
"Our country's borders and sovereignty and the lives of its citizens are being violated. We call on the Security Council to take a position equal to the seriousness of this situation," he said.
The Syrian army backed by Hizbullah fighters launched a long-expected assault against Qusayr on Sunday, reportedly entering the town and seizing several municipal buildings.
The fighting has since left more than 100 people dead, the Observatory said on Tuesday, most of them rebel fighters and Hizbullah members.
The regime has made recapturing Qusayr a key objective due to the town's strategic location between the capital Damascus and the Mediterranean coast, and near the border with Lebanon.
na, they prefer fighting in Lebanon and screw lebanese... is there any real syrian rebel? We can doubt
Can Dr. Arreet 7akeh of Syria, aka Abou Jreij, tell us from where these rebels should come and how they will travel to al Qusayr, a city that is surrounded and might be hours away from falling? Also, shall they come with rocks, slings and knives or just come and everything else is being taken care of? Apparently, like great minds, all Drs. Arreeteen 7akeh think alike. It must be that "Christian" gene of brilliance.
Too late for Homs and Qusayr ... Already there are reports of Wahhabi fighters that have left Syria joining in the battles in Tripoli.
If Qusair is fully surrounded and if the border area is controlled by the Hizb, how are they able to do this?
Those fighters have already left ... The rebels left have little recourse ... The question is do Hezbollah and Iran want to take heavy casualties fighting them to the death or give them an out whereby they have to leave by a route that poses no future threat to reorganize.
mc, where do you get your propaganda information? you are a simple liar that blindly hates Sunnis...
I do not hate all Sunnis ...Unfortunately it is the Sunni sects of Islam that have fostered all the fundamentalist sects that seek to impose their will on everyone else ...
The vast majority of Sunnis are good people, moderate in their views and tolerant of others ... I think you will find that most Sunnis in Lebanon are far more afraid of Salafists than Hezbollah.
Question from M14 in your opinion how many Hezbollah members are fighting in Syria???
The way you people are crying, it seems their number is around 1 million or one Hezbollah member is equal to 100 wahabi thugs ???
Those who oppose Hezbollah’s political and military support for the Syrian regime are the very same people who reject any role for the Resistance in Lebanon. They dream of turning the party into a charitable organization, never once having stood by its side when it battled Israel for years to liberate the South.
In fact, their history is full of betrayal of country and cooperation with the enemy – from the failed May 1983 peace accords between Lebanon and Israel, to openly justifying Israel’s assault on Lebanon in 2006. They would gladly fight Hezbollah themselves if they could. Instead, all they have left to hope for is to see the takfiris bring their crusade to Lebanon, so that they can blame it on Hezbollah.
Quite frankly, no one – from Hezbollah leadership all the way down to its popular base – wanted to see the party’s fighters engaged in the Syrian conflict. But the fact of the matter is that the Resistance is doing something that many will soon begin to appreciate.
You are delusional. Thus is from a person that has supported the muqawama till very recently when its actions became those of a thugish militia answerable only to a foreign power. Lebanon will suffer the consequences of the Hizb aggression against the syrian people and its support for a monsterous regime. That is the ultimate betrayal.
The end of hizb al bala is on the horizon with the fall of the butcher bachar...start learning farsi if you haven't yet and move to iran...
I guess this time the al-Assir Wa Fosso 7ami Defense Forces will take care of finishing off the hizb and Syria at the same time! wlak chou hal allouchti hayda? I don't know if others have noticed that allouchti starts seeing clearer as he gets more nervous and hyper. But hey, I'm 100% with anything that helps clarify the picture.
Keep sending Lebanon Hizb Allah bodies people of Syria. You're doing the country a big favor.
The Opposition should grab their guns and hurry up the road and fight themselves or else thay should have a tea party and eat some cake and call Harari and see how he's feeling today.
The rebels are finished the Syrian Arab Army has infiltrated them and disbanded them ...the majority of the people fighting now in Qusair and other areas are foreign fighters paid for by the Qatari government.. the opposition is fighting a losing battle...the syrian arab army can finish them off right now if they wanted to but they would rather catch them alive. they have them surrounded in every area... they have nowhere to go.
Tanks. Planes. Artillery. And it's taking HA and the Syrian army this long? Lol. Says a lot.
Then please explain to me. If he has the support of his people. Why he needs the support of a Lebanese party. Not to mention any Iranians thrown in as well. This is far from over. Even if qusayr fell now. Nothing changed. This will continue to last a long time. And the rebels will make their own gains. Sooner or later.
"He must have the support of the majority of his nation."
don t dream... his nation DOES NOT support him but fear him... that is why he seems to be supported but only because people fear his regime.. like any other people under a ruthless dictatorship... never read history the roar? LOL
Could George Washington have beatened the British if Spain had militarily supported the British by invading the American south from Florida? Hezbollah is a very powerful military organization. They have stacked the deck against the rebels and the West and Obama talk and talk.
