Baabda police detained on Saturday the second suspect in the attempted kidnapping of a Kuwaiti national in the Mount Lebanon town of Bhamdoun.

According to the state-run National News Agency, the police detained a person identified as A. al-Hassan, who is a Syrian national.

On Friday, security forces said that police thwarted the kidnapping of a Kuwaiti national Sheikh J. S.

The news agency reported that al-Hassan planned the abduction with 20-year-old M. S., who is also Syrian.

The man was also detained.

The assailants, according to NNA, were seeking to abduct the Kuwaiti national to demand a ransom in exchange for his release.

On Friday, Kuwait hailed Lebanese security agencies for thwarting the kidnapping attempt, renewing its travel warning to its citizens against heading to the country.

The Kuwaiti Embassy in Lebanon noted in a statement that such incidents are aimed at tarnishing Lebanon's image and violating its stability.

It warned all of its nationals against traveling to Lebanon given the current situation in the country, renewing its demand for them to leave it immediately for their safety.
