Renowned television director Simon Asmar is being interrogated by the Internal Security Forces on charges of murdering a Syrian man whom witnesses said had ties with the veteran Lebanese celebrity.

LBCI television said Asmar denied to interrogators “any link to the murder of Syrian national Mohammed Ragheb al-Darwish, whose body was found in the outskirts of the Kesrouan town of Shahtoul with three gunshot wounds to the head and several stab wounds on several parts of his body.”

According to the TV network, security forces “heard the testimonies of some citizens, who said that the victim had ties with Simon Asmar and that Mohammed blackmailed Asmar several times over this relation, which forced Asmar to pay Mohammed sums of money to stop his blackmail.”

“Investigations are ongoing to verify these details and identify the murderer, especially that the victim's mobile phone was found on him and its memory contains some evidences that might lead to the perpetrator,” security sources said, wondering “how can someone who committed a crime or tasked someone to do it leave a cellphone containing evidence on the body.”

The informed sources told LBCI that “Asmar was also wanted over financial crimes, specifically the issuance of bouncing checks,” adding that “Asmar's family has kept mum over the entire case.”

The body of 27-year-old al-Darwish was found on July 3. The ISF's Public Relations Department said back then that “a refugee ID issued by the Office of the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees in Beirut, which mentions that he has a wife and daughter, was found on the body.”

The homophobic and bigoted nature of the arabs lead people to these extremes. no excuse for murder, but it still affects and motivates. As Morgan Freeman said " The word homophobic does not exist, you are not scared, you are just an asshole."

Innocent until proven guilty, but it certainly does not look good for him. His lifestyle is not on trial. He is a suspect in a murder case. I just would tell him one thing though about women: you don't know ya Simon what you've been missing on!

Thumb jadski 08 July 2013, 11:59

hahahaha i bet he would tell you the same about men.

If homosexuality was legal and normal in lebanon (like the rest of the world), this would have never happened.
One of the consequenses of these ridiculous and outdated laws are blackmail... Extortion....
Time to wake up and care!!

the guy is innocent , just give some time to time , he`s just a suspect now , and the suspect is in most cases innocent ! do you know that ? , so let`s be fair and scientific & let`s just wait and see ... am not defending anyone , this is just the actual legal truth ! ...wait and see the end of the movie

His private life is not our business.
The man is accused of murter, he's not convicted yet. No investigations or confessions yet. So why are we talking behind his back? Can't we wait 4 z judge verdict? Who is the saint here to throw his 1st stone and hurt his family's feelings before the truth is revealed?

Simon Asmar is a legend. So was Tim Brown, So was Mikle Jackson... Being a legend should not allow you to ignore the laws of the land you belong to.
That said, Simon knows well that he can go live in any country of the world and be successful and take advantage different set of laws.
