Bkirki is seeking to hold a meeting to gather key Christian leaders to tackle the latest developments in Lebanon, al-Joumhouria newspaper reported on Tuesday.

According to the newspaper, Bkirki is trying to ensure that Phalange party leader Amin Gemayel, Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun, Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea and head of Marada Movement MP Suleiman Franjieh attend the meeting.

Sources told the daily that several leaders demanded the Maronite Bishops Council to clarify its latest statement over the spread of illegal arms in Lebanon before deciding whether to attend the meeting or not.

Information obtained by the daily said that a preliminary meeting might be held at the end of the month for the representatives of the four main Christian parties to prepare for the wide talks between the heads of the parties.

The bishops said after their monthly meeting headed by Patriarch Beshara al-Rahi that “all armed groups must lay down their weapons in favor of official security forces.”

“Political groups cannot rely on arms to achieve their goals, but they should do so through democratic means,” they declared.

".... several leaders demanded the Maronite Bishops Council to clarify its latest statement over the spread of illegal arms in Lebanon before deciding whether to attend the meeting or not."
There is no need for clarification after clarification after clarification..... our Batrak, God Bless, was clear from day one since his election: All Non-State weapons and Non-"islamic" secular resistance weapons are illegal and entice strife and sedition. It just does not get any clearer than that.....!

“Political groups cannot rely on arms to achieve their goals, but they should do so through democratic means,”... that is the only way!

Welcome back RFT... Mr tiger, if you do not like Roaring's comments then don't read them :-)

phoenix... never will we see another like him. his son, his brother, nothing like him again. if he wasn't assassinated in 82, how different Lebanon would be right now?

Call Aoun every insult in the world... he is defiantly not the same man or have the same charisma and statesmanship, but his republican views, patriotism and stubbornness for the law is the closest we have to a nationalist. If only the Kataeb and FPM can unite. They are the closest to free political parties in Lebanon. The maarada is tied to the Baath party, Geagea's LF is stuck to Mustaqbul Saudi funds. Only the Kataab and the FPM have shown their political independence to make a stand against their alliance's wrong doings.
