Syria's opposition National Coalition has cancelled plans for a meeting in Istanbul this weekend focused on forming a provisional government, an opposition official said Thursday.

"There will not be a meeting this weekend," spokeswoman Sarah Kharkour told Agence France Presse.

The Coalition's new chief Ahmad Jarba had said on Tuesday that the opposition expected to form a provisional government in the second half of August.

Syria's opposition has struggled to put forward a united front during the country's more than two years of conflict, which have killed some 100,000 people.

The last attempt at forming a provisional government, under then rebel prime minister Ghassan Hitto, collapsed earlier this month when Hitto resigned after nearly four months of failed efforts.

With the rapid advances of the "ASSad" regime resulting in its expedited... well... umm... duh... fall? (as predicted by our Lebanese Nostra Damsels gabbaguybo, thepatriot, cedre knefeh, benzona and safar 7abibi allouchti) there is no better time than yesterday to form a provisional government. Keep up the great work, March 14 - Syria Branch.
