Army Seizes Gas Masks 'Bound for Syrian Rebels' in Hasbaya

إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربية W460

The army on Thursday evening announced seizing a truck carrying gas masks and related equipment in the town of al-Kfeir in the Hasbaya District as al-Jadeed television said it was "bound for the Syrian opposition."

"The pick up truck driver was arrested and the foundings were confiscated,” a communique issued by the Army Command said.

It remarked that “the competent court has opened an investigation in the incident.”

Meanwhile, al-Jadeed noted that the truck was bound for the Syrian opposition.

"The truck was bound for Syria's opposition via (the Israeli-occupied) Mount Hermon,” it remarked.

The same source added that the truck driver is called Nawwaf al-Halabi and that he hails from Hasbaya.

Syria's main opposition group accused the government of "massacring" more than 1,300 people in chemical weapons attacks near Damascus on Wednesday, saying many of the victims choked to death.

Videos distributed by activists, the authenticity of which could not immediately be verified, showed medics attending to suffocating children and hospitals being overwhelmed.

More footage showed dozens of people laid out on the ground, among them many children, some of them covered in white sheets.

The claim of chemical weapons use, which could not be independently confirmed, was vehemently denied by the Syrian regime which said it was intended to hinder the work of the U.N. weapons inspectors already in the country.

Yes! Excellent news! God bless the Lebanese Army for protecting Lebanon from the evil schemes of the FSA-Al Qaeda terrorists.

Thumb benzona 22 August 2013, 23:20

Our glorious army wants Syrian people to die from chemical attacks? Or even if it was destined to FSA. How in the world is this illegal? It's not a weapon and it's defensive!

Shame on them, yes, I repeat shame on them!

Thumb benzona 23 August 2013, 00:53

Well, I expect I can trust your judgement since you're an expert in launching such horrible Weapons.

Missing americanlebanese 23 August 2013, 02:21

Absolutely Mr flamethrower, you tell them that. When you launch a missile, you have to stick your head inside it. If it is a chemical weapon, you need a mask. This is why the opposition needs masks.

The "Army" can seize gas masks heading for Syria but not weapons or men from Hizthrowup? They can investigate rocket launchers from Tyre but not bunkers or ammunition depots of the actual terrorists in the South? Man, I would love to see an actual Lebanese "Army" in your country. I love your culture and the Lebanese people but your "Army sucks!

Thumb benzona 22 August 2013, 23:59

If I am "ahmar" (thanks for the insult btw) you're intolerant and sectarian. I may have something in common with the enemy, yes, I admit it. I VALUE LIFE! So do most M14ers. We don't throw ourselves for peanuts. A life is a life and this mask, saves life's. Your rockets, however, take lives!

And to me, this is a personal opinion, Israel is on the same level as Syria or Hezbollah.

I have wonderful news for the free Arab democratic world.

yes true abbass, benzona, tonyfarres, anonymetexasusa, formerlebaneze, and the most vocal of all fsa supporters are outsiders. They couldn't care less if syria became a breeding ground for salafi throat cutters and al qaida as has always been the case in 'revolutions' and foreign interventions. They don't think it'll ever happen. They think the army is just capable of dealing with them, think m14 are god send and seasoned politicians with nothing in mind but lebanon. Corruption? M8 does it too, so, doesn't count. Impotent and so on. Imagine lebanon being surrounded by some unstable nation like iraq. Same thing would happen. Most of the opposition are blood thirsty throad slicing salafi wahhabi radical heathens fromm over 30 different countries. All these people will say 'if i only new' veeeeery ironically.

This incident proves that the FSA are not the ones who killed the 1300 people with chemical weapons otherwise they would have had those masks long time ago prior to the execution on the ground. The lying regime of Assad-Nasrallah executed another type of Assassination on that Syrian town.

Come on, the Syrian regime and the Lebanese Iranian puppets are experts are lying like their criminal Islamic leaders in Tehran. WHenever they deny something it is automatically an admission of guilt. Iran has done that for years, I wish Dick CHeney was in the White House-- he would have erased that country off of the face of this earth by now.

"The truck was bound for Syria's opposition via (the Israeli-occupied) Mount Hermon,”
So the driver was going to cross from Lebanon into the Golan Heights, then cross again from the Golan Heights into Syria. Exactly what drugs was this guy taking to think that this was remotely possible. Once again a stupid attempt to involve Israel in inter-Arab conflicts.

Thumb scorpyonn 23 August 2013, 09:26

.. and it takes a fool to recognize it!

Thumb beiruti 23 August 2013, 15:56

Yes, sure its part of the disengagement Baabda Accord. Lebanon will not be involved in the Syrian war. We will turn and look the other way when Hezbollah goes over and participates in killing Syrians, but when the Syrian regime gasses its people and the people try to get gas masks, well then, the Baabda Accord becomes operational and the masks cannot go in to Syria.
Who do these Syrians think they are dealing with when it comes to the Lebanese?? We are a people who live by the rule of law, honor our commitments. When the Baabda Accord was agreed upon, that's it, we mean it and there will be no exceptions, (unless Hezbollah needs to break the accord in order to keep Iran happy so that Iran keeps sending money). Lebanon is a serious country full of serious people.

Thumb Senescence 23 August 2013, 16:23

Was it not the case that shiite villages were indeed being attacked by the opposition for about a year and a half before Hizbullah intervened? And was it not the case that these villages were denied ample protection because of the Baabda Accord? And was it not m14 (e.g. Okab Sakr) who were sending aids first, whatever the aid may have been (apparently, milk and blankets, clarified after accepting such an engagement had occured)? Discuss.

Thumb Senescence 23 August 2013, 18:11

Well, FlameCatcher, I can't really comment on their involvement as being commanded by the pertinent authority figures in Hizbollah to fight with the Syrian regime any earlier than at most 1 year ago, I can say some 'independents' probably were involved, as many other Lebanese.

First rebel attack on border towns are as early as april 2012. When it was still thought the government is winning/would win.

Organized protection aided by Hizbollah of shiite villages, october 2012. (http://www.dailystar.com.lb/News/Politics/2012/Oct-18/191805-pro-hezbollah-fighters-rebels-clash-in-syrian-border-towns-residents.ashx)

Hizbollah admitted direct involvement on feb-march 2013.

M14 were funding rebels long before; only reported on onctober 2012, reasoning it was even earlier. (http://www.nytimes.com/2012/10/07/world/middleeast/citing-us-fears-arab-allies-limit-aid-to-syrian-rebels.html?pagewanted=2)

Thumb Senescence 23 August 2013, 18:11

Everybody violated the Baabda Accord while hoping the other party wouldn't because of the approval of the declaration, but truth of the matter is, funding and supply for rebels was before Hizbullah got involved in any significant numbers, and before that, their claim of protecting shiite villages adds up as the references show.

Thumb Senescence 23 August 2013, 18:19

Oh and, again, I'm saying both violated the Baabda accord without knowing the other has done so earlier than most would reckon to believe, therefor both are at fault, and the stipulation that M14 have had no hand before Hizbullah's announcement is a lie. My statement is credible in light of the rebel commanders professing their supply of weapons had come from an M14 figure with help from Turkey, dating as far back as october 2012, and that's not the earliest estimate either; this was only (emphasis)reported during that time.
