Al-Rahi: No One Can Avoid Implementing Baabda Declaration

Maronite Patriarch Beshara al-Rahi highlighted on Thursday the importance of the Baabda Declaration, saying it is a written agreement, “not ink on paper,” that was approved by all political powers.

He said ahead of traveling to Romania: “No one can shy away from their responsibilities towards the Declaration.”

“No one has the right to link Lebanon, its people, and economy to the developments in Syria,” he added.

“That would be a shame for Lebanon's sovereignty and independence,” declared al-Rahi.

Moreover, the patriarch called on President Michel Suleiman and Prime Minister-designate Tammam Salam to speed up the formation of a new government.

“Conditions should not be placed on the formation of a cabinet and Suleiman and Salam should use their constitutional rights to that end,” he remarked.

A presidential statement on the Baabda Declaration on Thursday had said that the agreement did not address the resistance, but it paved the way for discussions on a defense strategy.

Hizbullah has acknowledged that it was taking part in the fighting in Syria alongside the country's regime, saying it is defending it against the threat of takfiris and also protecting holy Shiite sites.

Yes, 800 wealthy donors, "show me the money, he will tell them. Oh, I so wish that our religious politicians would emulate Pope Francis, who wears a wooden cross, shuns the Vatican's opulence, drives around in a beat-up 20-year old Renault 4L and, most important, preaches the word. Our religious politicians are pretty far away from God--discussing politics ad nauseum--but stay quite close to their constituents' pockets. "Show me the money," he will tell them.

His eminence is picking the wrong word.

He said no one can avoid implementing xyz

The fact is some huge international terrorist organization based in Lebanon is doing so.

He should rephrase to ' no one should avoid implementing xyz'.

you mean the saudi-takfiri terrorist organization through their M14 local arm? in terms of neutrality they did great!
whether you consider the political support, the funding and sending fighters, they were like super neutral! and okab saqr made sure to send neutral milk and neutral blankets

Are you a man of God or a politician? Why don't we order our disgruntle politicians to read and interpret the Bible or the Koran for the followers to abide by.

@Naharnet: Your moderation is a joke! I wrote :" Al Rahi is going to Romania to inaugurate a Maronite church which has 800 constituents!", and you deleted my post??????? Where is your professionalism?! People on this site report posts out of spite. You should evaluate each complaint based on merit rather on number of complaints. We all know there are 2 or 3 people here with many fake accounts.
