Speaker Nabih Berri hailed on Monday the expected deployment of security forces in the southern suburbs of Beirut, pointing out that the AMAL movement and Hizbullah will cooperate.

“We believe in legitimacy of state,” Berri said in comments to local newspapers.

He stressed that AMAL and Hizbullah have never been a replacement, saying that “security is a heavy burden.”

Berri expressed regret over the negative comments concerning the matter, considering that it's infamous to say that the members who will be deployed were selected according to specifics characteristics.

“We don't know anymore what some people want,” he added.

A joint force of 800 men composed of soldiers from the army and security services will begin their deployment on Monday in Dahieh, where they will take over security at checkpoints set up by Hizbullah in the wake of two bombings that hit its stronghold.

Hizbullah had set up its own security checkpoints in Beirut's southern suburbs after the bombings which wounded more than 50 people on July 9 and killed 27 and injured around 300 on August 15.

The Lebanese army is also present in the area and has a barracks in the Bir al-Abed neighborhood.

Hizbullah has found itself targeted in Lebanon over its involvement in Syria, where it has dispatched fighters to battle alongside President Bashar Assad's forces against rebels determined to topple him.

Very good that the state steps up to the plate and assumes its responsibilities in Dahie. HA and Amal want to cooperate on this one, and we should all be happy about it and see how it plays out. There is plenty of reasons to be sceptical about this arrangement, but we are in a situation where we must try to seize any opening by the other side and try to build on it. Let's not dismiss every olive branch that HA/Amal hands to us. There is enough distrust already. Lets give it a chance.

Until Hezbollah itself is dismantled, our Lebanese Army and Security people are merely working security duty on behalf of a foreign political and military presence transplanted on Lebanese soil. They are setting up the Lebanese State as a shield so that they may prosecute Iran's war in Syria with less exposure to reprisal attacks back in Lebanon.

Let us see this for what it is.
