Asiri Says Suleiman's Visit Postponed after Consultations with Lebanese Authorities

Saudi Ambassador Ali Awadh Asiri said on Monday that President Michel Suleiman postponed his visit to Saudi Arabia after consultations between the Saudi and Lebanese Authorities.

“The postponement of the visit came in light of consultation between the Saudi and Lebanese Authorities,” Asiri said in a statement.

He explained that the visit will be “postponed to a date that will be set later on.”

Suleiman was scheduled to travel to Saudi Arabia on Tuesday.

On Saturday, Suleiman told the pan-Arab daily al-Hayat that he “will discuss with kingdom officials the developments in the region and their impact on Lebanon.”

“Saudi Arabia has been Lebanon's main supporter throughout its history of political and economic crises,” he explained while denying that the talks will address the formation of a new government in Lebanon.

He was scheduled to hold talks in Saudi Arabia with King Abdullah and former Premier Saad Hariri.

Suleiman is set to travel to the United Arab Emirates on Wednesday.
