Hizbullah Delegation Meets with Qahwaji, Says Supports Army Measures in Baalbek

Hizbullah expressed on Monday its support to the measures adopted by the military institution in the Bekaa city of Baalbek, following the latest deadly clashes in the region.

"We appreciate the army's efforts and we support the measures it has adopted to establish security and safeguard stability in Baalbek,” the state-run National News Agency quoted a Hizbullah delegation as saying after a meeting with Army Commander General Jean Qahwaji.

The NNA detailed that the delegation included caretaker Agriculture Minister Hussein Hajj Hasan, and MPs Ali al-Meqdad and Hussein Moussawi.

Hizbullah announced on Sunday handing over to the Lebanese army checkpoints at the entrances and in the center of the Bekaa city following clashes between party supporters and members of the Shiyyah clan that left five people dead.

A Hizbullah source told Agence France Presse that the party is working on handing over other checkpoints, until the military takes control of them all and it becomes responsible for security.
