Rifi Threatens to Resign if Wissam al-Hassan Transferred from Intelligence Bureau

Internal Security Forces chief Major-General Ashraf Rifi threatened to resign should Intelligence Bureau director Wissam al-Hassan be transferred from his post.

Ad-Diyar newspaper reported on Friday that he “refuses to sign a memo to transfer Colonel Wissam al-Hassan.”

The daily said that Rifi will enter the political field in Tripoli after his resignation, adding that “he might become a candidate in the 2013 parliamentary elections.”

However, the newspaper continued: “Hassan will resign and become ex-Premier Saad Hariri’s security advisor.”

He may also “travel to Paris with his family like Lieutenant Samir Shehade former chief of the Intelligence Bureau who escaped an assassination attempt and traveled to Canada,” Ad-Diyar remarked.
