Chinese Vice FM Arrives in Geneva for Iran Nuclear Talks

Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Li Baodong arrived in Geneva Saturday evening for crucial talks on Iran's nuclear program, an Agence France Presse reporter said.

Li was the last high-level diplomat to rush to the Swiss city to take part in crunch negotiations aimed at ending a decade-long standoff between world powers and Iran over its nuclear program.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and his British, French, German and Russian counterparts were already in Geneva to lend weight to the negotiations, boosting hopes that a deal might be possible.

However, some cracks appeared between the world powers on an unscheduled third day of talks Saturday after French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius raised concerns and said Paris had not accepted an initial draft of the deal.

Li's first meeting after arriving at the upscale Geneva hotel where the talks were taking place was with Fabius, an AFP reporter confirmed.

Iranian officials have said that if no deal is reached by the end of the day Saturday, a new round of talks will be held in seven to 10 days.
