Head of al-Mustaqbal parliamentary bloc Fouad Saniora has accused Premier Najib Miqati’s cabinet of seeking to pave way for Hizbullah’s full control of the state.
“The objective of the current government is to pave way for the full control of the arms party and the logic of armed men on the nation and the state,” Saniora said during a dinner banquet thrown by MP Mohammed al-Hajjar at his residence in Shehim.
He said the first stage of the alleged control has started with a series of appointments made to state institutions and the second stage would come by a new electoral law that would serve Hizbullah’s interests, the former premier told the personalities attending the dinner.
By bringing its people and allies to parliament, the party would seek to guarantee that the 2013 elections would fall in its favor and then it would take full control of the state, Saniora said.
He lamented that Lebanon was being “controlled by a single opinion” at a time when the Arab world is making progress towards more freedoms.
