The government is planning to bring back to the discussion table the issue of false witnesses which was a source of major controversy between pro and anti- cabinet forces during the tenure of former Premier Saad Hariri.
An Nahar newspaper said Tuesday that Prime Minister Najib Miqati discussed the issue with Justice Minister Shakib Qortbawi on the sidelines of the government session held at the Grand Serail a day earlier.
The bickering on the false witnesses file in ex-Premier Rafik Hariri’s Feb. 2005 assassination was based on the insistence of the March 14 forces to refer it to the judiciary while the March 8 coalition stressed on referring it to the Judicial Council.
Al-Mustaqbal bloc MP told Voice of Lebanon radio station (100.5) that the March 14 stance on the issue of those who misled investigators in Hariri’s murder hasn’t changed.
“If the aim behind discussing it again is to obstruct the international tribunal and its decisions … then this would confirm that our concerns about the objectives of this government are true.”
