Report: Israeli Officer Expects Attack against Lebanon before Strike against Iran

Head of Israel's Paratroopers Brigade Itamar Ben-Haim noted that Hizbullah has doubled its rocket arsenal in recent years, saying that it rivals that of countries not organizations, reported the pan-Arab daily al-Hayat on Saturday.

He said: “The most likely scenario of a war will take place with Lebanon, not Iran.”

He explained that “all of Hizbullah's arsenal is directed against Israel, making it a primary threat to the Jewish state.”

An attack against Lebanon will include heavy airstrikes, he revealed, while saying that the assault will be “swift, accurate, and destructive.”

The Israeli airforce is conducting daily drills in preparations for any attack, stressed Ben-Haim.

“The developments in the Middle East are dangerous and require Israel to constantly prepare for the worst case scenarios,” he clarified.

Israel is scheduled on Monday to hold wide scale military drills with units from the United States and several European countries.

A hundred aircraft, including F16s, will be part of the drill, which will focus on short and long range strikes, as well as land targets and aerial combat, reported al-Hayat.
