Saudi King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz held talks on Saturday with Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah al-Jaber al-Sabah and Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani.
Sources told Naharnet that a Kuwaiti mediation succeed in rectifying the ties between Saudi Arabia and Qatar after disputes on regional developments.
Recently, press reports in both countries said that the ties between Saudi Arabia and Qatar witnessed deterioration over the developments in Syria and Egypt.
Al-Quds al-Arabi newspaper reported recently that “disputes are threatening the Gulf Cooperation Council as Saudi Arabia and Qatar have different points of view over the situation in Egypt.”
The ties between Saudi Arabia and Qatar had witnessed tension after Riyadh publicly announced its support to the Egyptian army ouster of Islamist president Mohammed Morsi in July, vowing to compensate any aid the west would suspend.
The three members of the six-state Gulf Cooperation Council also discussed increased regional cooperation.
The Washington Post reported earlier this month that the Gulf countries, led by Saudi Arabia, are moving to strengthen their military support for Syrian rebels and develop policy options independent from the United States.
The Saudis, according to the report, plan to expand training facilities they operate in Jordan and increase the firepower of arms sent to rebel groups that are fighting extremist elements among them even as they battle the Syrian government.
