Beirut firefighters doused at dawn Sunday a huge blaze that gutted a sawmill in the area of Ard Jalloul, the firefighting department said in a statement.
The fire had erupted at around 5:20 am at the mill that lies near the Hariri institute, it said.
The sawmill was gutted as the fire reached a shop abutting it and a car parked outside the facility, the statement said.
But five fire engines contained the blaze from all its sides to prevent its advance and they finally halted it, it added.
The sawmill is owned by Rabih and Mustafa and al-Dalati.
The cause of the incident has yet to be determined.
