Russia to Send Additional Humanitarian Aid for Syrian Refugees in Lebanon

Russian ambassador to Lebanon Alexander Zasypkin expressed on Monday his country's solidarity with Lebanon, announcing that Russia will offer additional aid to Syrian refugees on Lebanese territories.

“Russia supports Lebanon's efforts in fighting terrorism and maintaining stability and security,” Zaspkin told reporters after talks with caretaker Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour at the Bustros Palace.

His comments come in light of twin suicidal bombings that targeted the Iranian Embassy in Beirut last week, the attack which killed at least 23 people.

The Russian diplomat also informed Mansour that his country will dispatch three cargo airplanes carrying humanitarian aid to help the Syrian refugees.

There are over 800,000 registered Syrian refugees in Lebanon.

The unregistered refugees bring the number close to 1.3 million.

The security and political crises in Lebanon have been topped with a huge economic burden caused by the Syrian refugees who are escaping the fighting in the neighboring country.

The Lebanese authorities have warned that the massive influx of refugees in the past week could no longer be resolved through humanitarian aid.

They called for a political or security solution to end the crisis.
