The Lebanese Forces and Progressive Socialist Party stressed on Monday the importance of adhering to the state given the critical local and regional situation.
The two sides reached an agreement over “the need to back the state, especially the army and security forces, as the only safe haven for the Lebanese people.”
They condemned the assassination of former Finance Minister Mohammed Shatah, highlighting the importance of the supporting the security and military forces in Lebanon.
“The support will enable these two institutions to perform their duties in maintaining security, stability, and civil peace,” stated the LF and PSP.
Moreover, they emphasized the importance of ongoing contacts between various political powers in order to end the current political deadlock and its negative impact on Lebanon.
They agreed to continue to hold joint bilateral meetings and to keep political discussions open on various national issues to demonstrate that different political views should not negatively affect the situation in the country.
The meeting included former LF MP Antoine Karam and PSP officials MP Akram Shehayeb, Secretary Zafer Nasser, and media officer Rami Rayyes.
Shatah was killed in a major car bombing in downtown Beirut on Friday.
